Therapist office where Savannah Davis helps therapists learn how to start a private practice and how to get therapy clients

Always dreamed of having your own practice, but have no clue where to start? I’ve got you.

I’ve talked to so many therapists who have goals of owning their own practices, but who question how doable it is. What if I leave the stability of my job, and then private practice doesn’t work out? What if it takes me too long to get off the ground and fill my caseload? How do I even begin? If you’ve found yourself thinking these things, you’re not alone — I’ve heard it all before, and I’ve been in that position myself!

That’s where I want to tell you what I wish someone had told me: Take a breath and start putting one foot in front of the other, because owning a successful private practice is absolutely doable.

Having been through it all before, I don’t want you to have to go about it alone. I’m here to help with one-on-one business consultation and my downloadable Private Practice Guidebook.

“Savannah was instrumental in helping me launch my private practice. She was warm, professional, and encouraging in her communication and generously shared insights that proved to be invaluable to my business. From website considerations to networking/marketing to struggling with imposter syndrome, Savannah is incredibly skilled and experienced in supporting therapists in any step of their process. I wholeheartedly recommend her business consultation services for therapists looking to start and/or grow their private practice.”

What brought me here:

Savannah Davis helps therapists learn how to start private practices.

I’m Savannah, and since starting my own practice, I’ve come to realize how much I love helping other therapists do the same thing. I’ve found that entering private practice has provided me with freedom and flexibility across all areas of my life, which allows me to be a better therapist and feel more resistant to burnout. I’m passionate about trying to better the mental health field, and so I want the same thing for other therapists, too.

As years passed, I have found myself frequently providing consultation to friends and colleagues who were in all different stages with their businesses: just getting started, trying to figure out how to build their caseloads, and trying to navigate the ins and outs of running a business. After all, most graduate schools do not teach us anything about running a practice, so it’s been up to us to figure it out!

That’s where I want to make things easier on therapists who are entering private practice, or who are in the process of refining their businesses. I’ve been where you are, and have already done the hard work of figuring out the steps to put things in motion. I’ve also invested heavily with my time and financial resources to learn about different marketing strategies specifically for therapists, and have figured out what truly works — an essential step in filling your caseload and operating a successful practice. Lastly, I help private practice owners to streamline their business systems and practices, allowing them to feel more efficient in running their businesses so that they can focus on their clinical work.

Although running a successful private practice can feel intimidating, it is totally doable, and I’m here to help.

No matter what stage you’re at, I’ve got you covered.

  • The First Steps: Forming Your Business

Maybe you’re in the early stages of considering whether private practice is right for you. Or, perhaps you’e decided that you want to branch out on your own, but you have no idea where to begin in starting your own business. I’ve been there! And I can walk you through the steps of starting your own business in a streamlined manner, saving you hours of time searching for information across Google.

  • Building Your Caseload with Effective Marketing

Add this to the list of things that therapists weren’t taught in graduate school! In order for clients to find you and be able to access your services, you’ll need to have an effective marketing plan. While this can sound daunting, I provide support to help therapists clarify their niches and implement marketing strategies, which in turn helps potential clients find the help that they’re looking for.

  • Refining Your Practice: Business Systems & Decisions

Starting your business is one thing - figuring out how to operate a business, while also providing clinical care to clients, is whole other ball game. I help therapists implement business systems that allow them to efficiently run their practices. Smoothly-run businesses can reduce stress and burnout, while allowing therapists to focus more on the part they love: working with clients.

What I offer:

I offer one-on-one consultation services to therapists who are in the early stages of starting their own practice, as well as therapists who are already in business, but who are looking for support in building their caseload, moving to private pay, revising their vision, or making systematic changes to their practices.

I offer consultation services on an appointment basis. You may find that one appointment is sufficient for your needs, or you may find that it’s helpful to assess as we go and schedule several appointments.

When you work with me for business consultation, here’s what you’ll get:

  • A pre-meeting questionnaire where you share about where you’re at in your practice-building stage, what you’re looking for, and what you feel you need the most help with.

  • A 50-minute, one-on-one consultation, which can take place in-person at my South Portland office, or virtually.

  • Tailored support to strategically guide you in moving forward with your practice. This can include:

    • Identifying and outlining the necessary steps to start a business and get things off the ground

    • Identifying and developing strategies to help you effectively market your practice (i.e., how to get clients!). This can include coaching around how to identify your niche, how to write effective website copy that clearly speaks to your ideal client, how to structure a website and what information to include, and how to get your website and Google Business listing ranking high on search engines, among other marketing strategies!

    • Consultation relating to important business decisions, such as: whether or not to contract with insurance, how to successfully operate a private pay practice, how to set your rates, incorporating sliding scales and creating accessibility, choosing an EHR (electronic health record) system, identifying your niches and areas of specialty, setting your business hours and schedule, building boundaries in your practice, and more.

    • Guidance and support in streamlining your business practices and systems (i.e. accounting and money management, responding to client inquiries, structuring new client consultation calls, etc.).

    • A downloadable Private Practice Guidebook that contains the following: a practice-building how-to checklist with clear steps for how to start a private practice; a guide for how to fill your practice, including: the importance of marketing, the value of having a niche and how this can help you fill your practice, an explanation of several key marketing strategies, discussion of how to market to your target demographic, and additional marketing tips; and a guide to managing finances and money in private practice.

Initial consultation rate: $175 (includes downloadable Private Practice Guidebook, a $49.99 value)

Follow-up appointment rate: $160
